May 1st, 2013: Up near the river...

One of our favorite places to be...

Started my day by seeing a blue jay near my house... then I had to go pick up my photography from the nature center, on the way we saw 2 robins.

I don't know exactly what I sold until I do an inventory... but I know I sold the 8x10 deer for sure. So then after we picked it up we walked around a bit.

I saw a bird I have never seen before, it flew away and then I realized I didn't have my memory card in my camera... lol

2 very cool taxidermy birds that were in the nature center today! Canada Goose and a Hawk I believe!

Anyways, my pictures aren't the best today... but I sure enjoyed myself, it was a beautiful chilly day for me.

This is the wildlife park the nature center gift shop is at.

Saw 2 deer on the way up, but they disappeared into the bushes.

Northern Flicker Woodpecker hammering away on the light post and watching us.

What a beautiful view... in both directions!

American White Pelicans

Bald Eagles surrounded by Great Blue Herons
Look close, I think the bald eagles have 2 for sure, possibly 3 chicks in the nest. So cool!
They are across the river, so far away... but still fun to watch!

Notice all the Great Blue Herons... the eagles took over one of the nests, which is why there are so many of them nearby!

Great blue Herons flying, I saw a pelican flying earlier too when I had no memory card lol

Double-crested Cormorant (a first for me)

  2. LOL, I love the pic with the little red arrows :) You're knowledge of which birds are which is great... I wouldn't know one bird from another if you paid me to. I never even knew woodpeckers were that small... looks like the shape of a robin. I guess I figured a woodpecker would have a longer beak. You learn something new every day! :)

  3. Thank you Kathy, we sure did. It's my favorite park here!

Thank you Jen. lol it's funny, when I was taking pictures I didn't see any of the great blue herons behind the bald eagle... when I was editing the photos I noticed them... couldn't believe I didn't see them lol

Most of the birds I have seen before and looked them up many times... you get to learn their names. And when I see something new it's so much fun researching them!

This woodpecker is bigger than he looks, the size of a robin but he's far away, there are much smaller and much larger woodpeckers, so many types.

  6. LOL Stacy, I'd like a memory card in my brain some days!

I had heard of the cormorant, but sure never seen one! I knew when it was flying that it wasn't a duck or goose. Pretty cool!

    Thank you!

I heard that too Christine, supposed to get all the way up to 26 or 28. Wow, a little hot for me lol Currently sitting at 21. I can't wait to get out to see the goslings... hopefully soon!
